I am a pharmacist by training (Registered Pharmacist, 2003, University of Regensburg, Germany) and hold a Ph.D. in Human Biology (2006, University of Ulm, Germany) and an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability (2015, University of Cumbria, UK).
After my Ph.D., I conducted research at the University of Vermont before relocating to Switzerland in 2007. After having worked at the Competence Center for Applied Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine (University of Zurich) as a Group Leader for several years, I was appointed Group Head at the ETH Zurich in 2012. In 2016, I was elected to Assistant Professor of Immunoengineering & Regenerative Medicine at the ETH Zurich (Institute for Biomechanics, D-HEST).
Since October 2019, I hold the Kate Gleason Endowed Full Professorship in the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester NY, USA).
